Hi, we are a young couple from Delhi, India who are on our journey of financial independence or early retirement. We love travelling around the world and have so far covered 10 countries in the last 3 years.
The background
While I was working in my dream job, I realised that chasing after deadlines, money and materialistic things is not something I want to do my entire life. About the same time I met someone who shared the same ideals and we soon got married.
As my job became busier with official travel keeping me away from home for long, I decided that I need to spend more time at home. I decided to settle on a job which did not involve any travel at all. While things were going smooth in our lives, there was something missing. We just did not know what.
Introduction to FIRE or early retirement
Somewhere around mid of 2017, we came across the concept of FIRE or Financial Independence Retire Early. And we immediately knew that it was the missing piece in our life puzzle. Although, when we looked at the expected saving rate in the FIRE community we never thought we could do it.
Start of our FIRE journey
However, the concept of FIRE had ignited the fire in our minds already. We decided to give it a serious thought, reprioritised our lives around what is most important to us i.e. family time, travel and a stress free life. Before long, we had started on our FIRE journey. While we plan to continue to travel even post attaining early retirement or financial independence, beyond that we are still figuring out what we would do. We may continue working in our jobs, as we do like what we do, or do something completely different. But one thing is for sure, which is that we would not be working for money.
The early retirement target
We plan to achieve early retirement or financial independence by the time we are 42 i.e. 12 years since the start of our journey. I have also put up two simple retirement planning excel sheet in my blog post on how much do I need to retire early which you can use to reach a target corpus and year for early retirement.
Why FIRE Forty
It’s 2019 and we are now almost 2 years into our FIRE journey. We thought it is a good time to share our journey and learnings so far. Additionally, we would also be posting our thoughts and ideas for early retirement, financial independence, investing, increasing income and reducing expenses.
But that is not all, we would also be sharing our travel stories, itineraries, and photos. Our friends who love to travel would also be putting up guest posts.
But why no Mrs. FIRE Forty
Mrs. FIRE Forty likes to dictate her thoughts and posts are written by Mr. FIRE Forty :(. She is the editor and approver of all the posts written by Mr. FIRE Forty, so you know who the boss is ;).
